Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Department Manager (Fashion & Beauty) to oversee the daily operations, merchandising strategy, and sales performance of the department. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving revenue growth, optimizing merchandise mix, enhancing customer experience, and leading a high-performing team in both physical and online retail environments.


Key Responsibilities

1. Merchandising & Market Research

  • Develop and execute sales and merchandising strategies to achieve departmental sales, stock, and profit targets.

  • Manage buying budgets, merchandise assortment, and inventory levels effectively.

  • Drive online sales growth by maximizing synergy between e-commerce and physical store operations.

  • Analyse market trends and consumer demand to recommend new product lines and suppliers.

  • Plan and implement sourcing and procurement strategies, including overseas buying trips.

  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and improve positioning.

  • Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to secure favourable terms and develop strategic partnerships.

  • Plan and manage merchandise purchase schedules and delivery timelines.

  • Lead and execute departmental renovation or layout improvement initiatives.


2. Business, Sales & Cost Management

  • Oversee daily operations and ensure smooth execution of business and sales plans.

  • Monitor and control operating expenses, including manpower costs.

  • Lead, motivate, and support staff and promoters to achieve sales and operational targets.

  • Prepare and analyse sales, profit, and inventory reports; develop budgets and performance reports.


3. Advertising, Promotions & Visual Merchandising

  • Plan and execute advertising and promotional campaigns in line with sales objectives.

  • Manage promotional budgets and timelines effectively.

  • Enhance in-store visual merchandising and product displays to drive sales.

  • Leverage digital marketing tools to improve customer engagement and business growth across online and offline channels.


4. Staff Management & Customer Service

  • Develop manpower plans and oversee staff scheduling to ensure optimal workforce utilization.

  • Conduct on-the-job training to ensure high service standards, product knowledge, and adherence to company policies.

  • Perform annual performance appraisals and implement effective performance management practices.

  • Lead, coach, and develop team members to achieve operational excellence.

  • Ensure excellent customer service standards and resolve customer feedback or complaints promptly.

  • Continuously improve operations, merchandise assortment, and service levels based on customer insights.


5. Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and retail standards.

  • Adhere to all regulatory requirements, including Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) guidelines.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of company information, including business operations, customers, and suppliers.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.


Requirements

  • Proven experience in retail management, preferably in fashion, beauty, or cosmetics.

  • Strong business acumen with experience in sales, merchandising, and inventory management.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and make strategic decisions.

  • Customer-focused mindset with a passion for retail excellence.

  • Familiarity with both offline and online retail operations is an advantage.
