Description

A Sales Manager in a Grocery Store oversees product sales, merchandising, stock availability, supplier coordination, and in-store customer engagement for the dry goods category (rice, grains, canned food, spices, packaged snacks, beverages, etc.). The role ensures smooth operations, strong sales performance, and customer satisfaction.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Sales & Business Performance


  • Drive daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets for the dry grocery section

  • Monitor product movement, fast/slow-moving items, and adjust strategies

  • Implement promotions, bundle deals, and festive sales plans

  • Analyse sales reports and recommend improvements


2. Merchandising & Category Management


  • Ensure proper product display, planograms, and shelf arrangement

  • Check expiry dates and ensure 100% FIFO practice

  • Maintain correct price tags and promotional labels

  • Ensure visual standards for dry grocery shelves and end-caps


3. Inventory & Stock Management


  • Monitor stock levels and prevent out-of-stock situations

  • Coordinate with purchasing team or suppliers for replenishment

  • Identify slow-moving/aging stocks and plan clearance

  • Conduct stock counts and ensure stock accuracy


4. Supplier & Vendor Coordination


  • Work with suppliers on delivery schedules, promotions, and product launches

  • Negotiate better pricing, margins, and display agreements

  • Address supply issues and ensure timely replenishments


5. Team Leadership


  • Supervise sales staff, cashiers, stockers, or department supervisors

  • Assign daily duties, conduct training, and monitor performance

  • Maintain staff schedules and ensure productivity


6. Customer Service & Store Operations



  • Resolve customer complaints promptly

  • Ensure stock availability for high-demand items

  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and store hygiene standards

QUALIFICATIONS


  • 3–5 years experience in retail, FMCG, grocery, or supermarket operations

  • Experience managing a department (dry grocery, FMCG, sundries, household goods)

  • Basic computer skills (POS, inventory systems)
