Description
We are seeking a passionate and experienced candidate with a specialization in packaging design to join our in-house design team at FairPrice Own Brands & Food Solutions. You will play a critical role in shaping the visual identity of our diverse portfolio of house brand and private brand products, through impactful, consumer-driven packaging. This is an opportunity to lead high-visibility design work, where you can translate brand strategy into impactful visual designs that will directly influence consumer perception and purchase behavior.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end packaging design lifecycle, from brief and initial concept development to final artwork, ensuring print readiness and alignment with brand guidelines, marketing objectives, and consumer insights.
- Direct and oversee the creation of high-quality packaging designs including graphic layouts, typography, imagery, finishes and with considerations for merchandising on shelves.
- Maintain and elevate the visual integrity and consistency of all packaging across various product lines and markets, ensuring brand recognition and premium appeal.
- Work closely with various stakeholders from Brand & Business Development and external agencies (e.g. printers, suppliers, service providers) to ensure design feasibility and timely execution.
- Present design concepts and strategies to stakeholders at all levels, articulating design rationale and securing buy-in.
- Potentially lead and mentor a team of freelance designers, providing constructive feedback, guidance, and fostering a collaborative and creative environment.
- Stay abreast of global packaging design trends, competitor activities and consumer preferences to inform cutting-edge design solutions

- Strong leadership qualities with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills - capable of working effectively with different stakeholders to understand their needs and build rapport.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and a collaborative team player.
Requirements:
- Degree/Diploma in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in art direction with a strong focus on packaging design, preferably within the FMCG industry or at a design agency working with FMCG clients.
- A compelling portfolio showcasing a diverse range of successful packaging design projects, demonstrating strong conceptual thinking, aesthetic sensibility, and technical proficiency.
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) is essential. Understanding of print processes, materials, structural design, and packaging production techniques is a strong plus.
- Solid grasp of branding principles, market trends, and consumer insights within the FMCG landscape.
