Shopify powers a large share of US direct-to-consumer brands, which makes "knows Shopify" one of the most common requirements in ecommerce job ads. The roles fall into three groups. Brand-side roles run the store: merchandising, promotions, apps, checkout, site content and the operations behind orders. Developer roles build and maintain themes (Liquid), custom apps and headless storefronts, in-house or at an agency. App-company roles are ordinary software jobs (engineering, product, sales, support, marketing) at companies whose customers are Shopify merchants, so merchant knowledge counts in interviews. Remote is common across all three.
