The Role
We are looking for a Business Data Engineer (Contract) to support Soleil Collective’s growing data and systems landscape across our portfolio of global beauty brands. This role sits at the intersection of business analysis, data engineering, and systems integration, working closely with Product, Operations and Finance teams to translate business needs into scalable data and system solutions.

In this role, you will help design and improve data pipelines, support integrations across our systems, and ensure that business requirements are translated into well-structured technical solutions. You will work closely with stakeholders to understand operational workflows, analyse data, and help build reliable data infrastructure that supports better decision-making across the organisation.

Beyond technical development, this role will also play an important part in requirements gathering, documentation, testing coordination, and system optimisation, ensuring that new solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with business needs.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working across both technical and business environments: someone who can analyse data, understand operational processes, and collaborate with engineering teams to deliver effective system and data solutions.

• Pipeline Development: Design and construct robust data pipelines from various sources to enable faster, superior, and data-informed business decision-making.


• System Integration: Develop custom integrations using REST, SOAP, and event-driven architectures.


• Infrastructure Management: Build and maintain tools for effective monitoring and management of the data infrastructure.


• Quality & Optimization: Contribute to initiatives focused on improving data reliability, efficiency, quality, and conducting performance tuning on data pipeline jobs for optimal end-user experience.


• Collaboration: Partner with Brand, Product, Operations, and Marketing teams to address data-related challenges and support their data infrastructure needs.

• Requirements & Design: Assist in Gathering business requirements,configuration and collaborating with Operations and Finance on solution design.


• Deployment & Transition: Play a key role in the testing and deployment of customized solutions, managing data migration, comprehensive system testing, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for a seamless transition.


• Improvement: Conduct gap analysis to identify operational improvement areas and recommend appropriate solutions .


• Support & Reporting: Provide training and ongoing support to end-users 

Requirements

• Education: Minimum Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics).


• Experience: 5+ years in data engineering roles, proficient in Python and/or Java.  Experience with Netsuite and Celgio is desirable.


• Skilled in conducting business requirement gathering, understanding stakeholder needs, and designing data-driven solutions that align with business objectives.


• Cloud Expertise: Proven experience in building solution architecture, provisioning infrastructure, and delivering data-centric services/applications in either GCP or AWS.


• ELT/Orchestration: Extensive knowledge of ELT processing and workflow orchestration (Celgio experience is a strong plus).


• Development Practices: Experience with modern development tools and practices, including Git, Kubernetes, Docker and build pipelines.


• AI Acumen: Willingness to utilize AI tools while understanding their limitations and taking responsibility for the output.


• Background: Preferably experience within a Startup, E-commerce, or ERP environment.
